Walney Island started the game well and produced some good football but without creating any real chances. As the game went on Hawcoat Park got in to the game and from a mix-up in the Walney Island defence, Hawcoat Park were given ta golden opportunity to score and they readily took the chance to give them a 1-0 lead. Hawcoat Park took control of the game and created a few more chances but none really troubled the Walney defence. In the last few minutes of the first half Giles Ambrose broke through the Hawcoat Park defence and in to the penalty area and with the goal at his mercy he passed the ball to Chris Fleming who thought he had got the equaliser only to be thwarted by a great save from the home goalkeeper.


The second half started with Walney pressing the home team and created a few chances but were unable to finish any of them. Hawcoat Park started to create chances and when the ball fell at Mark Jacksons feet on the edge of the box he calmy finished it in the top left hand corner of the net to extend their lead. Ths spurred Walney on and with the addition of under 16 player Connor Carson upfront they started to create chances and a 25 yard shot from fullback Simon Bassett was brilliantly saved by the Hawcoat keeper. Walney continued to create chances and a cross come shot from Andy Clarks ended up in the Hawcoat net to give Walney hope of a result. Walney kept pressing for the equaliser but it wasn't to be and in the final minute Hawcoat Park broke away and Graham Clarke scored to make the final scoreline 3 - 1. Walney could take some positives from this game as they battled for the whole game and never let their heads drop eventhough they went 2 goals down. All players tried hard and some lads did stand out for their efforts, Simon Bassett, Connor Carson, James Field,Craig Parkinson and under 16 player Ryan Devlin who had an excellent game in the heart of the walney defence.
