Walney Island Junior Section, formerly known as Nautical Junior Football Club have been in existence for approximately 20 years, the latter 7 years as Walney Island. Until July 2000 the club had 4 teams competing in the local Barrow and District Junior Football League in the under 11, under 12, under 14 and under 16 age groups with an approximate number of 60 boys connected with the club. Since this date the club has expanded due to its success and desire of parents within the community (Walney Island) wanting football facilities for younger children on Walney Island. To that end the club presently has approximately 240 children taking part in training sessions and playing football on a regular basis for our teams.
Walney Island Football Club is committed to raising standards at the Club, and has over the last few years put a number of our junior coaches through the Lancashire Football Association Level 1 Training Course at great expense to the club. The aim of the Club is to improve the standard of our junior coaches and, as a result, the quality of opportunities available to young people who are involved in the Club. To date we have 16 junior coaches who have attained level 1 certification. It is the intention to have some coaches qualified to level 2 over the next few years.
